About
This course provides participants with strategies for working with individuals who have severe communication disturbances and cognitive impairments in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp). Participants will learn to conceptualize communication disturbances, understand their cognitive and emotional components, and apply structured interventions to support clients. The course integrates self-reflection, therapeutic relationship conceptualization, goal-setting, and change strategies to promote progress in therapy. Participants will explore communication disturbances such as loosening of associations, word approximations, pressure speech, and thought blocking, with a focus on empathic interruption, structured interactions, and behavioural experiments to improve communication in sessions. By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1) Understand severe communication disturbances and their impact on therapy, recognizing triggers and how they affect speech patterns and cognition. 2) Apply interventions for communication difficulties, including feedback, clarification, relaxation, normalization, cognitive strategies, speech pacing, and behavioural experiments. 3) Use self-reflection to assess personal biases and reactions when working with clients, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration in therapy. 4) Set goals that consider communication impairments and their impact on therapy outcomes. *When purchasing all 10 CBTp courses, use code COURSE10 to get 20% off!* Best Psychological Services is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
