This 8-hour workshop provides clinicians and therapists with the tools to integrate cognitive remediation into mental health care. Participants will learn about its structure, effectiveness, and the neurophysiological changes behind its success. Key components, including cognitive activation, strategy monitoring, and generalization, will be explored to help clinicians identify cognitive deficits and tailor interventions. Through goal setting, strategy adaptation, and home practice, attendees will learn to bridge the gap between cognitive exercises and real-life applications. The course covers both restorative and compensatory strategies, providing worksheets and practical techniques for promoting self-generated problem-solving. Strategies for addressing challenges like motivation and slow progress will also be discussed to ensure sustained client engagement. By the end of the course, clinicians will have a framework for implementing cognitive remediation to help clients improve attention, memory, and problem-solving while achieving functional goals. By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1) Explain cognitive remediation's effectiveness and compare protocols for different mental health conditions 2) Describe components like cognitive activation, strategy monitoring, and generalization 3) Differentiate between restorative and compensatory strategies and apply strategy monitoring tools 4) Help clients apply strategies to improve attention, memory, and problem-solving 5) Identify challenges like motivation and slow progress and implement solutions to improve engagement Best Psychological Services is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
